Jar of salsa and mayo in one hand so I could still close the trunk, and everything else under my other arm. I reached up with my elbow to shut the trunk and wouldn’t you know it, the glass jar of salsa slipped out of my hand and landed right at the bottom of my rear window. Immediate spiderwebs through the whole window. I shouted an expletive, shut the trunk, and saw my young daughter looking at me with wide eyes. I quickly apologized that she heard me say what I said and started looking online and calling around for quotes. With a $1,000 deductible from my insurance, I stopped the claims process and called AAA. They contract with Safelight, and I had already gotten an online quote from them. AAA would have saved me nothing since Safelite had an $80 coupon. I called Ernie at St George Auto Glass and he told me they could order the glass from Vegas, have it in that night, and get my window replaced the next day (Saturday). They don’t usually work Saturdays, but they had some other work and he said they’d squeeze me in. Another local shop got back to me and told me a fair price, but said to call them if I get a lower bid because the owner will beat the quoted price. I didn’t bother calling them because Ernie earned my business with the lower price and willingness to squeeze me in short notice. Everyone else only had Monday or Tuesday appointments and I take my kids to school, so those days wouldn’t work. St George Auto Glass was less expensive, could do it quicker, and even notified me the day of that I could come in an hour earlier than the scheduled appointment time. Killer customer service and extremely fair pricing. I learned my lesson about closing my trunk lid with something in my hand, but if I ever have glass breakage, I know exactly where I’m going to get it fixed.
