Review: Wicked Disappointment
I bought a used Jeep and was SOO looking forward to getting a new stereo. I was also very excited to visit Car Concepts. I mean, these guys are the 800 lb Gorilla here in SLC. I am a huge stereo nut/audiophile and was really excited to visit these guys, talk about what could be done, put a plan together, etc.
I walked in and was greeted by this lady. It did not take long for her to say hello and she seemed nice. I told her I wanted to redo the stereo for my vehicle, that I had performed some research, was interested in Audison, and wanted to talk about the possibilities.
Now, if you have done your search, you know Audison and I was very keen on the Voce series, their entry-level class AB products, which are not inexpensive. The issue, though, I didn’t even know if I could fit class AB into my vehicle, so, I need to rely on the experts. However, as soon as I began speaking about Audison Voce, she should have been able to determine the price range I am willing to spend on a system.
She walked me over to a computer and started typing on the keyboard. A moment later, she asked me a question, “So, you are hearing engine noise through your speakers?” I said, “No, I want to upgrade the stereo in my Jeep.”
She started typing some more and then said something to the extent of, “Well, this is beyond my abilities, you will have to talk to my manager.” I said, “OK, can I speak with your manager?”
She informed me he was at a conference and would not be available for the rest of the day. OK, there are a bunch of people running around. I am surprised there is only one person who can talk to me about a new stereo system, but, that’s OK. She took down my name and phone number.
I then asked her if she could demonstrate for me some of the products they have on display, you know, let’s hear some stuff, man! What do you guys have!?!? She said no, but I am welcomed to look around. She then left. Really? I was so disappointed.
I had heard of DC Customs in Bountiful. I drove to DC Customs and there were two people behind a counter. The lady asked if she could help. I said I bought a Jeep and really don’t like the stereo that comes with it. The guy behind the counter turned, looked at me, and asked, “Is it that you don’t like the stereo in the Jeep or is it that you don’t like the sound?”
Oh my gosh, what a great question. I told him I don’t like the sound. He walked with me to the car, we listened, he pointed out all the components in the vehicle. We talked about all the options, how things would or would not fit into the vehicle; it was really exciting to discuss various options with someone who knew their stuff. We then went into the building and he wrote out some detailed notes. We looked at images of gear on the computer and talked about features and options. Before the day was over, he had emailed me a detailed package with out-the-door pricing.
I was really fired up about my interactions with DC Customs, but did think I should probably wait until the sales manager or whomever gets back with me from Car Concepts. Again, I have always been under the impression that Car Concepts is the best. Well, a week later and I not heard from anyone at Car Concepts.
Car Concepts built their reputation in Salt Lake City as “the premier” shop for high-end car audio systems. Maybe I just got unlucky a couple times over by being greeted by someone who doesn’t know anything about car audio and, who knows, maybe that person never got the message back to the manager who was suppose to give me a call. Regardless, I am thrilled DC Customs gave me the experience I should have received at Car Concepts but didn’t.

Review: I went in to get heated seats installed. They were quick, professional and I thought well priced for the service. I would certainly go back.

Review: Car Concepts is a horrible spot to get a car stereo installed! They are high priced and take advantage of you. I had a pair of 6.5″ door speakers, a media/CD deck and, 1 10″ under seat sub to have put in… $750 installed! They went beyond the estimate Noel gave me by $50+ when I went to get my vehicle back. The installer left a huge mess for me to vacuum up afterwards (metal shavings, foam, etc). I also went there with 25′ of the speaker wire I was using. He took the small amount needed and took the remaining amount of the roll of $20 speaker wire (probably to make profit off someone else buying speaker wire in the future). They never went over any settings I may need to configure later down the road on the receiver either. Since, I have installed my own Kicker subs and new amp. The under seat sub had to go in the trunk initially, and as a result, Noel also tried throwing on a $550 Memphis Audio truck box for me to pay for instead. I absolutely wasn’t going for that option! I am very unhappy with my experience at Car Concepts, they are awful! Buyer beware!

Review: Very cool place and people. Good music playing while I waited in the lounge. They used the parts I brought in to install car stereo, and the price turned out exactly as they said it would. No surprise charges. Stereo works great, sound quality is nice. Fairly quick.

Review: I had a compustar remote start and alarm system installed a couple of years back, since then I’ve had some minor issues with the system, on both occasions they did not hesitate to respond, get me in asap to have it looked at, and corrected the issue immediately. I want to commend Car Concepts for standing behind their work and products and treating their customers right. Grade A customer service! I would be happy to do business with them again in the future.

Review: Monday, 8/21/23 – Excellent customer service. I had to bring in my vehicle to have the subwoofer re~connected. Also, they did a nice tune-up of my system with some adjustments to the stereo & amplifier. TY., to the front desk sales agent for your time today & your assistance with this issue.

Max, he was great to work with on the purchase of my new stereo and the installation… :)
I do wish he had taken some time to go over with me in a lot more detail on how to use this new stereo equipment…

Review: I’ve had multiple cars worked on by car concepts, and this last time was my last.
One month after the install the speaker sounded like it had blown. I had to take it into another place (since I moved) and it wasn’t in fact blown, just installed so poorly on both sides that it was rattling and had moved around. The cables had to be rearranged, speakers mounted properly and securely. The sound deadening also, as well, had to be completely redone. The installer showed me this in the shop. Cost me hundreds of dollars and of course, wasn’t covered.
Communication has also been poor. When this problem first occurred I had to call multiple times, I had to initiate figuring a solution, was extremely delayed, and I received zero follow up about this issue even though I had been a repeat customer spending a significant amount of money.

Review: Car concepts is good with some stuff but not all. They choose to not pay for their mistakes. Therefore, I am paying $1100 to fix the module distribution in my car (which allows the car to turn on/off) because their installer made a mistake. I think they could’ve at least offered to contribute or pay to fix the mistake made by their employees, but won’t because I didn’t go to them first, therefore I voided out my warranty with them. Take in mind, it’s common sense to go to the dealership first because there is a warranty, especially with how many lights came on in my car. With that being said, Ms. Lindsay tried to use an analogy where she compared tires to electrical work, when in reality, it is two very different things. I will admit, Max has great customer service but Lindsay does not and should take pointers from her employees on how to act, treat, and handle customers. Instead, she thinks she is some rich woman who can put others down since they are not in the same playing field. I definitely would not recommend this place to anyone because they don’t pay for their employee’s mistakes and poor customer service. The general manger is one inconsiderate, narcissistic individual who is all about the money and not the quality of work.

Review: Great custonmers service. I stopped by to quote a few items, and gemtlemen at the front desk where super helpful, took time to explain what I really need (vs. what I thought I need), and were overall cool.
