My car broke down on 52 and had it towed here. The car needed a simple alternator which is a simple repair and usually takes <1 hr labor. I had no options as this was the closest repair shop that my insurance would tow to. The shop quoted gave me a final quote of 820. I researshed how much the same part would be and came back at 200 plus I would get like 30 dollars back for the core so about 170. I knew they were charging me a ridiculous amount, but I live 1 hr away and did not have options. I spoke to someone when I picked up the car and explained my situation. They lowered the bill to 750. I still thought it was way too high. I called Rochester Toyota dealer to get an idea for what they charged out the door. They quoted me at $550! Do yourself a favor and shop around. That is a 33% diffrence even after I talked them down from 820! Response: I am not sure you can justify your pricing. I purposefully used the dealership as a benchmark for quality and tech experience. Additionally, Rochester is about 40 mins away from Cannon Falls so location should not matter. My stress was not about breaking down at all. It was about being taken advantage of my situation. The overall experience was very good. Pleasant office staff and technicians that could answer my questions. Price was fair. They had a great car loaner program that worked out well for me.
