I was originally quoted $200 for a programed key. An employee came and was unable to program the car key. He charged $100 for coming to my location and leaving a plain metal key without a transponder. This metal key only unlocks the car doors and does not start the car. I was not present when this all happened (my mom was). He told my mom it was $100 and she told him that was not a fair price since he didn’t make the key that started the car. We didn’t need a key for the sole purpose of opening the doors. My mom called me and he asked to speak to me. He explained he was unable to program the car key and that he would be leaving me a copy of the key he made. From our conversation, it was my understanding that he would be leaving a key with transponder even if it wasn’t program. I was okay with that. After charging us $100 I called my mom back so we could look for another locksmith to program the key. She said the key he left could not be programmed because it was just a metal key. I called their business number and he said it was $50 for coming out and $50 for the key he made. At this point I was upset and told him the key he left us was useless. He said to “throw it away”. I told him he didn’t do the job he came out to do and that I could have removed the door panel and lock myself. I could have taken the lock to another locksmith and had a plain metal key made for less than $50. He said “you can’t make a key that way” but that’s what he did. Price was great and it was all done in a timely manner. I decided to get some tint done since my car was already there. All done nicely. No issues thus far. Would recommended this local shop. It has been there for years.
